Dehd returns with another rollicking romancer in the form of their new single “Mood Ring,” the first preview by the trio of their forthcoming album Poetry out May 10th. In addition to new music, the band will be playing several festivals and headlining dates this year including an appearance at BottleRock 2024 and The Belasco in Los Angeles on November 1st.
Syncing their gushing affection to earnestly swaying rhythms Dehd pens a dazzling ode to falling in love on “Mood Ring.” One colored by their sonic and lyrical idiosyncrasies: from the crunchy riffs that start the song — the heavy grumbles giving way to a dreamily light melody — to their swooning over a wayfaring bad boy sporting a motorcycle and angelic features.
“Get back now, here comes my baby. Tough and rumble man with a little bit of danger,” wails Emily Kempf in starry-eyed infatuation. “I can’t believe that he’s with me. He’s everything I need, my sexy little angel.” Her words bounce in unison with the rubbery bass she provides alongside Eric McGrady’s jaunty drums — with Jason Balla’s gravelly vocals and swinging guitar accenting the whole bop of a track.

“Mood Ring” also comes with a music video directed by Glamhag that captures all its vibrancy in a feel-good film. One that follows a character played by Alex Grelle as they flounder through daily life — that is until they watch an ad for a product that shares the single’s name — one that promises to inject a dayglo vivaciousness into their mundane existence.
When the package finally arrives they down the entire bottle and find their life soundtracked by the song’s buoyant ecstasy — climbing through a doorway where Dehd jam out in this lushly pink alternate reality. Liberated and looking fabulous Grelle eventually stumbles upon the song’s pined-over bad boy (Kempf in leather and a mustache) and climbs onto the back of his bike to presumably ride off into the sunset.
