In a collaboration between two dynamic artists who share a need to go against the grain at every turn, Dreamer Isioma and Dua Saleh have joined forces for “Smoking Death” off the former’s new album, StarX Lover. The two, respectively known for fusing genres effortlessly through their solo material, complement each other on an instrumental different from what either is known for.

Unlike the explosive “Dead End” off of the same album, “Smoking Death” takes more after hip-hop than any other genre and fuses it with eerie electronic production that’s indicative of the experimental stages Dreamer Isioma and Dua Saleh find themselves in. At the same time, their approach is far from stilted, with Dreamer’s raw vocals and repetition of “smoking death” showing how they can let loose while the production hypnotizes.

As the two trade verses, it becomes clear that very few artists could compare to their electric creativity – making for a track no one could replicate even if given the same conditions.

See Dreamer Isioma on tour in LA at Echoplex on May 14 and in Santa Ana at Constellation Room on May 17.
