Four years after perhaps their biggest release yet, hardcore five-piece Turnstile is back with the lead single and title track to their upcoming album, NEVER ENOUGH, out June 6 via Roadrunner Records. Similarly to their previous record, GLOW ON, the band pulls off a balancing act between their newfound dream-pop sound and usual hardcore-punk forte.
Continuing the blend of genres Turnstile has become accustomed to, “NEVER ENOUGH” at one moment eases into a soft, pop-leaning anthem before it gets interrupted by singer Brendan Yates’ shouts that usher in mosh-ready drums. But perhaps most impressive is how the single is an arresting depiction of unfulfillment disguised as an uplifting anthem, allowing listeners to take it at face value while offering more underneath the surface.
Towards the end of the track, Turnstile teases a possible fade-in to the next song on the album, which is far more aggressive and in your face by the sounds of it. Either way, the little bit heard on “NEVER ENOUGH” is enough to get excited for whatever comes next.
