Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke shared a lengthy statement via his social media this morning “to discuss the unfolding humanitarian catastrophe in Gaza.”
“I sympathize completely with the desire to ‘do something’ when we are witnessing such horrific suffering on our devices every day. It completely makes sense. But I now think it is a dangerous illusion to believe reposting, or one or two line messages are meaningful, especially if it is to condemn your fellow human beings.”
Yorke has faced much criticism because of his silence, along with backlash over Radiohead’s guitarist, Jonny Greenwood’s longtime collaboration with Israeli musician Dudu Tassa and their performance in Israel on May 26, 2024.

Fans have reacted to Yorke’s statement citing it as “Wayyyyy too centrist, wayyyyyy too late.” ~ elleliza
Others were quick to point out “staying neutral and denying the only genocide in history that is being broadcast live 24/7 is insane.” ~ tunainchains

However, the majority of comments across multiple music blog’s social media posts (Grimy Goods, Brooklyn Vegan, Stereogum, Pitchfork) were disappointed and not shy to call Yorke out.
