With her debut album, choke enough, standing as one of 2025’s strongest records, singer-producer Oklou unveiled the album’s deluxe edition ahead of her US tour dates, including the experimental yet gentle “Viscus” featuring FKA twigs.
In case you couldn’t get enough of Marylou Mayniel’s unorthodox brand of electronic music that launched her to another level earlier in the year, the new track delivers on promises of pulsating ambience and digitized vocals. For good measure, FKA twigs’ inclusion comes after she dropped her own electronic project, Eusexua, in January.
While the deluxe edition of choke enough doesn’t come out until Oct. 30 via True Panther, “Viscus” finds Oklou and twigs matching each other’s eclectic sensibilities, setting the bar high for the rest of the tracklist and showing how they can continually push electronic and pop music forward.
When talking about the collaboration, which came about the two singers’ shared experience with stomach pain, Mayniel said “I kind of go through all of these sources of anxiety and talk about my body as a conflicting relationship.”
At the same time, they tackle the subject matter delicately, reflecting on the feeling as the production shifts like a living machine reacting to their emotions. It’s especially impressive how they bring the best out of each other, in large part thanks to the pop-techno instrumental but also because of how they sing from a vulnerable state.
Mayniel and twigs already proved they were at the top of their game months prior, but “Viscus” shows they have no plans to stop anytime soon.
See Oklou in LA at the Fonda Theatre on Oct. 23 and 27.
