As Go Skateboarding Day quickly approaches this Sunday, June 21st, the city of Vancouver has gone ahead and stepped it up a notch. Mayor Gregor Robertson officially declared the week of June 15 – 22, 2009 as “Vancouver Skateboard Week.” Talk about a big ups for skateboarding and coming from Canada of all places. As quoted by Commissioner Sarah Blyth:”Skateboarding has come so far. Only 10 years ago it was illegal to skateboard in the streets, skateboards were being confiscated and ticketing boarders. Skateboarders were buying boards with no place to use them.”
Well hallelujah Vancouver! Good move.
