Contest: Win Tickets to Gary Lucas' Captain Beefheart Symposium at the Echoplex

It was just a few weeks ago that we lost the extraordinary Captain Beefheart (Don Glen Vliet) due to multiple sclerosis. With his passing being just a month away from Gary Lucas’ Captain Beefheart Symposium at the Echoplex on January 13, an awesome event that started in 2010 and you can expect this year’s symposium to be all the more special. Not only will fans and friends celebrate in Beefheart’s honor for the music he has created and for his birthday of January 15, but the symposium will now be to remember him.

During the symposium Gary Lucas will show rare footage of the band live, spin unreleased tracks, and project slides of Van Vliet’s brillaint paintings and drawings, discuss the history of the group and many of the great musicians who came through the ranks of The Magic Band, and also illustrate Van Vliet’s quirky and idiosyncratic methodologies and techniques on his guitar.
