In the past decade, Chicago’s Mike Kinsella has played a variety of instruments in a handful of bands including Cap’n Jazz, Joan of Arc, The One Up Downstairs, American Football, Owls, Maritime, and Aloha. Owen is his solo project.

Owen came to The Troubadour this past Jan. 19 for a very intimate and heart-wrenching performance. As you can imagine, couples were cuddling all around as single ladies swooned. Owen played many old favorites from his older EPs and a lot of new ones from his old records as well. It was funny though, he was getting a lot of requests for mostly old songs and he just went to share, “So many songs I don’t know.” Apparently, he has forgotten how to play some of his really, really old material. Although fans were a bit bummed, they found his witty honesty quite endearing.

Supporting Owen were Mini Mansions and El May. Both bands put on a great performance. Check out the photos from all three performers below!
