Taking us through a joyous stroll down memory lane, the Postal Service came together last night to perform an incredible set at the Fox Theater Pomona. For some, such as this writer herself — Postal Service brought back to me the butterflies I once had for my college heartthrob. For others, the nostalgia dated back to their coming-of-age high school years, marriage, and other memorable milestone in life.
Celebrating the 10th anniversary of their debut album, Give Up, Postal Service enamored fans with a loving stage presence, a vivid light/laser show fit to make an EDM DJ jealous, and of cours an adoring performance filled with smiles, dancing, and an all-around engaging stage presence.
Ben Gibbard is such a cutie. I hope Zooey Deschanel wasn’t at this show because she’s be kicking herself for not being with this charming musician. Watching his slender frame dance around across the stage as he sang to us the songs that had carved memories not just in our heads, but our hearts — was pure enjoyment. Joining the front-man was the adorable Jenny Lewis (of Rilo Kiley, Jenny & Johnny). The cute redhead was a bit more sexy on this evening as she appeared rather buxom. A lot of boys in the crowd were excited when she jumped behind the drum kit. I was most excited when she played the guitar with her teeth during a powerful all-instrumental outro. Her and Gibbard killed it.
From “Such Great Heights” and “Sleepin In,” to “Nothing Better” and “The District Sleeps Alone Tonight” — the Postal Service took us back to our Myspace days. I can vouch for myself that at least one, if not two, Postal Service songs graced my profile page.
All-in-all, the Postal Service at Fox Theater was an outstanding show, and probably one of my best shows of 2013 thus far. I’m looking forward to seeing them at Coachella weekend #2, but I’m sure glad I jumped on the opportunity to see them up-close-and-personal in the Fox Theater.
Now, check out our sweet photo gallery below. We also got some shots of opening performer, Baths, who was throwing down some definite fresh beats. He even played a new song!
