Thee Oh Sees unleash a wild virus of sound at the Echoplex

Hands down, Thee Oh Sees are one of the best bands to see live. I think we say this every time we cover one of their L.A. shows, because each time we see them perform it’s an entire new experience. The band fires away with an exhilarating, weird, and totally infectious performance each time they hit the stage. This always incites a happy crowd frenzy of chanting crowd surfers, smiling stage-divers and just an all around glorious vibe.

When we first received word that Thee Oh Sees had booked two back-to-back performances at the Church On York in Highland Park, we were shocked that such a wild band with so much vigorous crowd energy was about to play a very small and very hot venue. Needless to say, we were very excited to see how it would pan out. Unfortunately, The Church On York was shut down due to code and permit violations (according to the city). But the show must go on, and that’s just what happened last night as Thee Oh Sees sold-out the Echoplex with a most glorious performance.

Thee Oh Sees absolutely tore down the house by its very structure as their music exploded throughout the Echoplex, infecting every audience member with a quick shake of the shoulders, nod of the head and even moshing. It was like a virus had been unleashed amongst a condensed crowd.

Opening up for Thee Oh Sees was Jack Name (aka John Webster Johns). He and his band helped get the crowd pumped with his unique (and eccentric) blend of garage rock. Also in a supporting slot were Zig Zags. This is the second time I’ve seen them this week! They opened up for Wolfmother this past Monday, also at the Echoplex.  Zig Zags absolutely brought the fury as people began to warm up their bodies for the moshing and chaos that would ensue from Thee Oh Sees. I honestly cannot wait to see Thee Oh Sees again!
