Karen O of Yeah Yeah Yeahs fame is releasing her debut album, Crush Songs tomorrow. But, this is hardly a collection of new songs. Karen O has said that this album was written when she was 27, just months before Yeah Yeah Yeahs released their sophomore album Show Your Bones.
Contrary to the fame that would soon follow the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, here Karen O is timid and introspective. Her debut release harkens back to the days before festival headlining status, when she worried that her wild dreams of success and, more pressingly, love were nothing more than dream-stuff. This album is a precious thing, more the work of a star on the rise then a superstar treading the line.
