With his new album dropping next week, Sufjan Stevens is now streaming his new record, Carrie & Lowell via NPR. The album is set for release on March 31 on Stevens’ own Asthmatic Kitty Records, but why wait you can listen it a week early!
Heralded by many as his greatest album ever, the intimate record is a return to Stevens’ folk roots with 11 songs that thematically focus on life and death, love and loss, and the struggle of dealing with it all. The album is named for Stevens’ mother and stepfather. With his mother having passed away in 2012, it’s a more sullen and stark album, but absolutely gorgeous in all its naked beauty. Stream it for yourself and let the words soak in as the lovely arrangements heighten the feels.
To celebrate the new album, Sufjan Stevens will embark on a lengthy tour that will kick off on April 9 in Philadelphia and will take him all the way through September 6 in the UK. Stevens will perform two Los Angeles dates at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion on June 3 and 4. Supporting Stevens at both date are Helado Negro. Tickets are on sale now. You can purchase them here.
