A rock ‘n’ roll hat-trick: Shannon and The Clams, The Coathangers and Sex Stains at The Echo

If you’re into fun and music, then The Echo was the place to be Tuesday night. Oakland based band, Shannon And The Clams played to a sold out crowd and judging by how difficult it was to move around, it had to of been oversold. I knew that Shannon Shaw was loved by many, but I was overwhelmed by the response she received as she walked on stage with her signature sparkle finish Danelectro bass in hand. Shannon and The Clams play a very unique style of good ‘ol rock ‘n’ roll, with heavy influences from classic ‘50s and ‘60s style doo-wap to ‘80s style punk rock. Not too many indie bands out there really tap into ‘50s style rock ‘n’ roll and truly make it their own.

Starting off the night were local LA band, Sex Stains. This is the second time in the last couple weeks that I’ve seen Sex Stains and they are quickly becoming one of my favorite local live bands. The energy and showmanship from the four-piece is impeccable AND they write great music!

Following Sex Stains, was the Atlanta three piece, The Coathangers. This was my first time seeing them live, I had heard so many great things about them and they lived up to my expectations. While these ladies may not be the best musicians out there, they play with conviction and are total badasses. What they lack in musicianship, they completely make up with raw energy and attitude.
