It’s with a heavy heart that we share the news of Surfer Blood guitarist, Thomas Fekete’s untimely passing. Seriously, fuck cancer.
Fekete died last night at the young age of 27 while sleeping. His wife has shared the following via a GoFundMe page.
“”Our sweet Thomas passed on last night, peacefully in his sleep, holding my hand. With one last sigh, he let go of the burden of pain and suffering that he has been bravely carrying for so long. I am full of comfort knowing that he is now free, and long for the day I get to be with him again.”
Fekete was a founding member of Surfer Blood. The band formed in 2009 and quickly hit the floor running in the underground / indie music scene and beyond. For many of the Grimy Goods staff, it was always a pleasure to cover Surfer Blood. Fekete’s cute face and smile always brought a warm energy to the band’s performance.
You can donate to help ease the costs of Fekete’s cancer treatments via GoFundMe. We urge you to read the touching message from his wife which ends with, “Now, my beautiful angel, go find Bowie and jam.” <3
I love you Thom. Thank you for being part of my life. I’ll never meet anyone like you again & I’ll miss you everyday pic.twitter.com/LUHQAU1MvO
