Sofi Tukker at the Lyric LA

It was my first time at the Lyric Theatre, a venue in mid city that is shining through with its current music selections gracing the evenings. Last week, KCRW featured a night with New York-based indie electro-dance duo Sofi Tukker, with opening performance by Kauf. The place was at capacity from the jump off which made if a bit difficult to dance in the tight crowd. Needless to say, the energy in the room was high and the music was deliciously enticing.

Los Angeles musician Ronald Kaufman, aka Kauf, shelled out an excellent opening set with provocative bass lines accompanied by percussion.  His deep sounds and seductive lyrics had the crowd swooning from start to finish.

As the evening’s main attraction, Sofi Tukker stepped up to the stage with a sweet charm. One part  Sophie Hawley-Weld (vocals, guitar), one part Tucker Halpern (electronic wizardry), there was an infectious symbiosis between the budding electronic duo, and the crowd was instantly feeling the vibes. The exquisitely talented Sophie stunned the crowd with her vocals and guitar skills while counterpart Tucker kept the electronic backline strong. Performing their most recent offers “Déjà Vu Affair” along with “Drinkee” and “Matadora,” the pair had a fierce party vibe keeping the room piping hot. Soaked in global rhtyhms and dazzle, it was impossible not to move and dance while taking in Sofi Tukker’s vibrant performance.

Currently on tour with M83, we highly recommend you catch Sofi Tukker in a city near you. Right in time for summer, Sofi Tukker’s debut Soft Animals EP will be released on July 8. Expect to hear it at every pool party, lounge and more.
