Gearing up for the release of their sophomore album Rock Island, Philadelphia’s indie-rock outfit Palm have debuted a music video for their single “Dog Milk,” taking their fans on a home video tour of a zoo and city rooftops in the process. Catching a glimpse of the occasional penguin and lemur, Palm’s video mingles all the sublimely warm textures of their guitar and digital smeared melodies into something dually confounding and mesmerizing. For a band that’s known for its idiosyncratic playing styles and backward approach to melodic structure, “Dog Milk” channels their rich and spastically fresh rock into something blissfully organic. As the video progresses into longer cuts of the band playing their instruments, the scenes become something of a statement about the ways in which Palm meshes together its different pieces. Whether its the dreamy splatters of guitar, percussion, warped string, or xylophone that seem to blend in a wonderous chaos or the soothing strokes of their many-headed vocal parts, it’s like watching a group of people scramble to complete a thousand-piece puzzle. Very few bands outside the likes of Animal Collective can reconcile such a jumble of sonic entanglements and make it work, Palm does so with gleeful effortlessness.

Palm will be heading out on tour this month with a local stop at the Echoplex on March 8. Their upcoming album Rock Island is out February 9 via Carpark Records, preorder it here. Visit the band’s website and Facebook to stay updated on future releases and tour announcements.
