Is it still too early to declare Oracular Spectacular a classic? MGMT’s debut features hits that have yet to fade, with “Electric Feel” shining particularly brightly. Local duo slenderbodies debuts their own cover of the single today, which you can hear exclusively below.
[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”#FF78FF” class=”fistclass” size=”15″]“Initially, we put this cover together for our tour with Passion Pit. The more we played it at shows, the more we fell in love with the song again, and so much of that was due to having this great moment of collective nostalgia with the crowd each night. So we wanted to share that experience now that we’re home from tour!”[/perfectpullquote]
Last year slenderbodies put out fabulist, a five-track EP, that established the group as adept pop producers. They bring that infectious energy to “Electric Feel.” The grooves remain faithful to the original, so very little nostalgia is lost in the transition, but the band updates the track with their own touches. While some percussion feels closeby, the track seems to echo down a dim corridor. Cold whispers beckon us, just as they do throughout the rest of slenderbodies’ discography, and this time won’t be the last.
