Crossover hitmakers Y La Bamba are back with a new single from a brand new record as well as fresh tour dates that begin right here in LA. “Rios Sueltos” is colorful both sonically and visually, considering the accompanying clip; it will appear on the band’s next EP, Entre Los Dos, due out September 20 via Tender Loving Empire. To celebrate the release, the band is headed on a tour that will take them from the US to Europe and back again; the kickoff will be in Santa Monica this Saturday, August 10th as part of KCRW’s Summer Nights. 

It can be hard to keep up with the lyrics of Y La Bamba’s latest. Frontwoman Luz Elena Mendoza practically raps the words; they come as quickly and frequently as the faces in the video. Each one has their own story and journey, united under this fiery single, whose title aptly translates to “free rivers.” The forthcoming 10” EP and video alike originated in Guadalajara as part of a pilgrimage of sorts for Mendoza, as she wrote in an essay published on The Talkhouse:
