Thundering drums usher in energetic vocals in Joshua and the Holy Rollers new single, ‘What You Need.’ The song comes as a teaser off of their upcoming EP ‘Patience,’ due December 6th. Be sure to catch the magnetic boy band on tour next month – dates below.

‘What You Need’ serves electric blues rock on a mainstream platter, giving us catchy guitar riffs and deep rooted yearnings. Frontman Mac Hanson (aka Joshua Hanson) howls out the top line with a gritty surrender that is liberating. Backed by his Holy Rollers, the chorus is a massive sing along akin to the Beatles in their grunge rock phase. Managing to harness a relatable yet unique sound, ‘What You Need’ was produced by Mac’s brother Isaac Hanson in his Oklahoma studio.

“What You Need is about the ever-pervasive desire our entire generation has: to get famous, yet do none of the work. It’s a shot across the bow at entitlement in the social media era and every lucky kid with wealth, privilege and connection trying to say they got it all by themselves. At the same time, it’s also a self-reflection on our own missteps. We’ve all met the person ‘What You Need’ talks about, and sometimes, we’ve met that person in ourselves. All of that, and it’s a real good time getting loud and sweaty with a bit of rock and roll.”

Led by the prodigious fourth son of the Hanson clan, Joshua and the Holy Rollers basically switches it up against his family’s well-known pop sensibilities, delivering some good old gritty rock ‘n’ roll.

Mac Hanson describes this release as the “ever-pervasive desire our entire generation has: to get famous, yet do none of the work.”

He continues, “It could simply be a single note narrative, saltily saying to the silver-spooned pop act: ‘your poppa can’t buy you what you need,’ but I think at it’s most essential – and more optimistic –  it’s also a reminder to this world: it’s okay to lose. It’s okay to not be that thing the world now perceives as being important. It’s okay to face the facts and see yourself for what you are, whoever that is.”
