Jay Som

Jay Som has announced a new 7″ that will have two B-sides from her last album Anak Ko, sharing the first track in the form of the sublime “A Thousand Words.” Musing amidst her love of lush sonics and warbling guitars, singer/songwriter Melina Duterte attempts to trade in her melancholia for something more constructive. The new song mingles Jay Som’s penchant for confessional songwriting with her ever-growing love of mixing raw Americana with pop fusions of the last few decades–and the result is always an emotive, moving track that attempts to distill the blues into something more.

“This song was made after a year of extensive touring plus a cancelled tour. I forced myself to make a sort of big and jovial song to bring me out of the funk I was in,” Duterte said of the song. “I also wanted to remind myself that music can be fun! It was heavily inspired by Bruce Springsteen, Elliott Smith, Pavement and that song ‘Alright’ by Supergrass.”

The A Thousand Words 7″ is out May 1, pre-order here. Visit Jay Som’s Facebook, and Instagram to stay updated on new releases and tour announcements. Catch Jay Som in Los Angeles on at Virgin Festival this June!
