In case you were wondering, Diet Cig is doing great. On their new single, lead singer Alex Luciano is almost too eager to convince us of that fact. “Thriving” is the second cut from the band’s forthcoming record, Do You Wonder About Me?, due out May 1 on Frenchkiss Records. They will be headed on an extensive tour across Europe then North America; Diet Cig’s last stop will be at the Teragram Ballroom on October 22.

““Thriving” is a cathartic, campy release of feelings. It’s about the duality of absolutely THRIVING without someone but also desperately wanting them to notice you doing so. Inspired by the melodrama of reality TV and musical theater, we wanted the song to bounce back and forth between a lavish personal anthem and the anguish of feeling forever beholden to others opinions.”

Diet Cig is the perfect dose of pop-punk. “Thriving” is a song that puts all their principles front-and-center, from their dedication to crunching guitars to Luciano’s deceptively delicate vocals, which are a Diet Cig hallmark. As the opener, the new track defines their record: an ode to youth where they wallow in nostalgia and vulnerability.
