Los Angeles is full of musicians, artists, and dreamers, laying a cloud of creativity over the city like a blanket. Enter Jett Kwong, the experimental pop artist who weaves worlds of fantasy into soothing, catchy soundscapes.
Jett gracefully transcends the Hollywood murmur in this new visual, as an esteemed outsider with a quiet resolve. The tracks lifts us up in a calming wave of drums and twinkling electronics, and maintains Jett’s signature sound with the use of her Chinese guzheng.
It’s not hard to see yourself in Jett, unique as she is. In the easily recognizable ‘Instagram’ world, Jett has an altogether honest nature and shows up as no one but herself. As a woman of mixed cultural identities, Jett strives to tell the stories of her family’s history.
“Our identities are colored by the context in which we are in – the way we grow up, our appearance, and our basic interests and beliefs”. It is through this belief that she channels her desire to seek out the true roots of individuality.” Jett shares. “I am inspired to tell not only my and my family’s histories, but a broader story of culture – to be a conduit for those stories and to find more innovative ways to express them.”
Celebrate Women’s History Month by going to the Bootleg Theater for Jett’s EP release show on March 19. Having already graced prestigious stages, including Carnegie Hall, Jett Kwong is ready for the next chapter of her story.
