Jagged Baptist Club Releases New Energy Fueled Single “Chop x8”

Jagged Baptist Club

Edging toward the bizarre, but with a distinct style and grace as they fall into madness, Jagged Baptist Club’s brand of post punk rock music collides like a meteor falling to earth as it slaps you in the face with esurient beats and a primal energy. Formed in 2018, the band is comprised of longstanding LA musicians Blake Stokes, Morgan Ponder, Josh Boyd and CJ Ramsey. In 2019, the release of their debut album ‘Reptile Super Show’ caught the attention of music fans around the world.

Their first single of 2021, “Temptation Death House,” turned heads and was featured on Grimy Goods’ monthly Best New Songs playlist. The raucous track gained attention from the likes of KCRW, Aire Libre and other radio stations intrigued by the band’s ability provoke the masses with a no holds barred, relentless drive that places their music somewhere in between post apocalyptic fervor and moody goth.

Now, with their new single, “Chop x8,” Jagged Baptist Club has dissented further into insanity. The sidewinding new single comes completely out of left field with a chorus that literally repeat the word “chop” eight times. Why? Well, because it sounds kickass, and paired with outlandish and sometimes confusing lyrics, the song is like an upper, waiting to take you on a ride — the means of transportation and destination are unclear, but you’re still filled with a bender fueled conviction.

“Chop x8” started off as a longer, more complicated song that just didn’t quite work.  I took a break from it and came back a few months later with a mission: HAVE FUN!,” notes band mate Blake Stokes. “Equally inspired by Slow Thai, The Vines and the Jason Statham Movies “Crank” and “Crank: High Voltage”, I cut the song in half, sped it up and went BUCKWILD with the lyrics.  Now the song is an upper fueled explosion with a chorus so catchy you can remember it even after those nights you can’t.“

Paired with a stripped down, but visually striking music video featuring giant lettering, strobe lights and all the band mates acting as erratic as possible, the song doubles in its potency as you wonder what you’re watching and hearing. Either way, you can’t help but keep watching as you bang your head to the barreling melody and raw delivery.

Jagged Baptist Club have in the mix the release of a sophomore album, ‘Temptation Death House’ with their new singles as just a taste of what’s to come.
