Beach House has offered up the first chapter of their multi-part release for their upcoming double album, unveiling their return with the transcendent Once Twice Melody EP. Duo Victoria Legrand and Alex Scally, like two astronauts farming the cosmos for further and loftier tones, remain reliable transmitters of the dreamy blends of electronica and psychedelia that have made them so beloved. But the four-track EP feels vastly more grandiose, bordering on the cinematic, beginning with its title track “Once Twice Melody,” a growth of orchestral textures and glittering electronics that enrapture alongside Legrand’s wraith-like murmurs.
Galloping percussion drives and a swirling fantasia of glowing synths light the way on the six-minute player “Superstar,” while the beaming but mournful “Pink Funeral” marries Legrand’s haunting melancholia and a soaring soundscape filled with heavenly chimes and harp flourishes. “Through Me,” an ethereal ballad that crescendos into a lush euphoria before pattering out into a vaporous close, ends the divine EP.
Each song is also accompanied by a lyric video created to be perfectly in sync with the music. On them, psychedelic and trippy visuals open up like little wormholes into the dimensions from which Beach House pulled their otherworldly music. Their album Once Twice Melody will be released in four chapters over the next few months, with Chapter Two dropping on December 8, Chapter Three on January 19, and the full album released on February 18.
Beach House’s eighth studio album Once Twice Melody is out February 18, pre-order it here. They will also be making a stop at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles on April 9, 2022. Visit Beach House’s website, Twitter, and Instagram to stay updated on new releases and announcements.
