Premiere: Jennie Lawless Debuts New Music Video for Her Single “Notice of Visit”

Chicago bred, now L.A. based, songwriter, musician and producer Jennie Lawless drops a new, visually captivating and thematically stacked music video for her 2021 single ”Notice of Visit.” Off her most recent EP, I Am Here To Make Friends (released last summer), ”Notice of Visit” is a slow, rhythmic drawl of electronic echoes and crunchy guitar, overlayed and punctuated by Lawless’s ethereal vocals. It’s a song about Lawless wanting to help and show up for her community, but the music video explores so much more.

Directed by Brooke Olsen and shot by DP Bez Martinez, the music video shows four versions of Lawless as she performs her single with a sort of unattached seductiveness. Each version of Lawless has her own feminine mystique and captures varying sentiments of humanity.

“The video explores the different sides of femininity and personhood. It’s also an homage to the sumptuous psychedelic movie masterpiece The Holy Mountain,” notes Lawless. ”We had many snack-fueled porch meetings with a team of creative friends within the L.A. mutual aid community to bring to life Brooke’s colorful vision of the four versions of Jennie Lawless – the Coquette, the Statue, the Demon, and the Giver. The last character is a direct homage to one of the most iconic scenes in Alejandro Jodorowsky’s 1973 film, The Holy Mountain.”

Bonding over their efforts to support the unhoused in Skid Row, Lawless was excited to work with Martinez and Olsen after seeing the music video they created for fellow volunteer and musician, Stephanie aka Hustlekat. After sharing her EP with Olsen, Lawless let the director choose which song to make a music video for. The result is a simple, yet evocative short feature with Lawless at the center.
