L.A. based composer, performer and producer Kaitlyn Aurelia Smith (KAS) has released a trifecta of news with an upcoming album soon to drop, a brand new single, “Is it Me or is it You?,” and a US headlining tour with a stop in Los Angeles at the Teragram Ballroom on Dec. 10.

KAS’s headlining US tour is in support of her upcoming album, Let’s Turn It Into Sound, and features nine dates across the country including two festival dates slated for late July and early August. Tickets for KAS’s album tour go on sale July 8, 2022 at 9 a.m. PST / 12 p.m. EST. In addition to her December headlining date in Los Angeles, KAS will be in Central California on July 28 performing at the Festival Mozaic at SLO Brew in San Luis Obispo.

Created over the span of three months, KAS recorded Let’s Turn It Into Sound — out August 26 via Ghostly International— alone in her home studio, making it not only one of her most personal and intuitive records to date, but also her most ambitious. In it, KAS explores more avant-garde styles and dabbles in a more explosive pop sound. Consequently, the new album is a musical response to the complex emotions and feelings arising for many and an attempt to process the fragmented pieces of present day reality.

Her new single, “Is it Me or is it You?,” is a complete departure from the softer lulls and interludes she is known for. Instead of soft swells of electronic signals, the track spins and vibrates with a newfound urgency and increased volume.

The accompanying music video for “Is it Me or is it You?” is a vibrant and visceral visual experience made by KAS and director Sean Hellfritsch. In it, geometric shapes form, expand, collapse and move all around each other while a digitized individual dances and sings as the shapes swirl all around her. Using a motion capture suit to create the music video, KAS was able to translate her physical movements into the digital space for an awe inspiring collision of color, sound and movement.

Having already released a full-length LP this year — a collaboration with Emile Mosseri that resulted in the soft, light and quietly pulsing album, I Could Be Your Dog / I Could Be Your Moon — KAS is continuing to expand on her sound, making this year a very fruitful moment for the boundary pushing young artist.
