Brijean, the musical duo comprising of percussionist and singer Brijean Murphy and multi-instrumentalist and producer Doug Stuart, drop their new single “Caldwell’s Way,” a bittersweet farewell written after the band moved away from their beloved Bay area and dealt with difficult life changes. Their new EP, Angelo, drops Aug. 5 with headlining tour dates in major cities to follow, including a Los Angeles show date, Aug. 13 at Zebulon Cafe. An additional California tour date is set for San Francisco on Aug. 11 at the Independent.

“Dougie and I wrote this song in the midst of deep life changes,” explains Murphy. “We found ourselves uprooted in the Southwest, processing both personal and geographic loss. I had never felt physical withdrawals from a place and community, until then. I missed The Bay and our friends in it – even thinking about certain buildings and streets brought me comfort and longing. This song is a loving farewell to the people and places I may never embrace again.”

Filled with shimmering organs, rich and holistic strings, and the birdcall of their former neighborhood, “Caldwell’s Way” is a deeply personal tune with intimate life details tucked away in the instrumentals and even in the song’s title — a nod to the band’s friend and club night cohort for many years.

Their forthcoming EP, Angelo is out Aug. 5 on Ghostly International. After suffering the loss of their parents (Murphy suddenly lost her father and Stuart, both parents), moving away from the Bay area and resettling four times in the last two years, the band poured their heartache, loss and perseverance into their upcoming EP. Featuring nine songs, Angelo chronicles the change both bandmates went through in a short amount of time and serves as a connecting point – the one constant during their years of flux and written with the intent “to get us out of our grief and into our bodies,” says Murphy. Fans can pre-save Angelo here.

Tickets for Brijean’s Los Angeles show on Aug. 13 at Zebulon Cafe are priced at $18.54 per ticket with a supporting line up featuring Salami Rose Joe Louis and Kyvita. In addition to their US tour dates, Brijean will be making an international appearance with Poolside in Mexico City. A full list of tour dates can be found below.
