Jordana Reflects Back to Herself After a Long 2022 on New EP "I'm Doing Well, Thanks For Asking"

Jordana tail ends the year with her newest release I’m Doing Well, Thanks For Asking, a compact six-track EP great for the outdoors. After an already busy 2022 with the release of her latest album, Face The Wall, back in May, this newest EP incorporates the synth-pop bright spots with singer-songwriter Jordana Nye’s bedroom-pop and folk roots. Similarly, much of the lyrical content concerns Jordana moving on from the past in familiar flairs of melancholy, the likes of which ring true to the already expansive catalog she’s released thus far. “Treat me how you want, just know that I won’t be here for long,” a blistering lyric from “Hands over My Head” highlights the EP’s strength in introspection amid sunny production and earworm melodies.

Previously released single “SYT” picks up from a similar headspace of bittersweet love lost, with Jordana roaring the chorus over entrancing guitars and drones. While it might not match most of the EP’s lo-fi and equally low-key energy, it still remains a standout without taking the spotlight from equally solid tracks. Opener “You’re In The Way” plays off its simplicity, allowing the mellow guitar and drum loops to shape around Jordana’s vocals. The same could be said for the rather revealing “Careless Mistake,” a piano jeremiad emphasized by backing strings that close off an already cohesive and fulfilling effort.

I’m Doing Well should prove Jordana’s aptitude for dropping quality music in quick succession. Across every track, there are not many moments where she loses sight of focus. Even on “Carry on Tonight,” the shortest and most minimalistic track on the EP, there’s a lot to appreciate in its colorful sonic textures brought about by complimenting synth/guitar trade-offs. Perhaps that’s where Jordana blossoms, consistently delivering music without one blind spot.
