Stream the Bombastic Pop New Single "The Edge" From ATARASHII GAKKO!

ATARASHII GAKKO! are back with another explosive single sharing their new song “The Edge,” a hyper-pop track that serves as the quartet phenomenon’s first of the year. After releasing the horror-esque bop “HANAKO” last year and their SNACKTIME EP the year prior, the young women of ATARASHII GAKKO! continue to redefine both what a J-Pop group looks and sounds like. Their electrifying sound stands as a riveting blend of genres that have been infused with fiery pop hooks.

On their latest single “The Edge,” they push their love of lightspeed beats and punchy melodies to the next level. Against the song’s excessively high energy ATARASHII GAKKO! thrive like no other, layering their vocals over one another to create a banger that’s as much meant for shouting along to as it is for raging to. Like much of their music, the track is punctuated by a heady rock sound as well, one that slips in and out of this power-pop energy that thrums throughout “The Edge.”

But there’s also a heavy synth bent to the song as well — one that crackles as it crescendos to infinity as electric guitars rage alongside them. True to that intersection of genres ATARASHII GAKKO! had Japanese artist and visual designer Fantasista Utamaro design a visual for the track that captures its retro aesthetic and combustive medley. Animating the four artists into a spacey and neon-beaming video that shows them running toward an endless horizon that calls to mind the nostalgia-laden arcade and early video games of the 80s and 90s.

“It was such a great experience working with UTAMARO-san,” the group said. “He made the cover art and visualizer look so cool and kawaii! We’re all running in it the entire time which is fantastic! On another exciting note, our music is used in Crunchyroll’s seasonal trailer that includes Kanon’s current favorite anime — Blue Lock. We’re all very stoked about this release and hopefully, we can perform for our fans sometime soon!”
