Dreamer Isioma is back with two new singles “Touch Your Soul” (feat. Merlyn Wood) and “Love & Rage,” as well as an album announcement for their next record Princess Forever which arrives on Apr. 21. They will also be playing at The Roxy in Los Angeles on May 20 and the Constellation Room in Santa Ana on May 21. The new tracks follow previously released singles “Technicolor Love” (feat. redveil) and “Fuck Tha World,” each new song expanding both the genre-sweeping sonic worlds and intergalactic narratives they’ve intertwined into their music. The album takes its name from the character Dreamer Isioma has dreamt up — a resident of the planet Terra 2000 — to articulate the earnest need for fostering community and love in the face of oppression.

Joining forces with Brockhampton’s Merlyn Wood for “Touch Your Soul,” the duo weaves a funky and sensuous track that brings together all the lush and buoyant influences that gush from their songs. From a mesmerizing collection of afrobeat-inspired percussion to the warm horns and ethereal strings that swell in the background. The music video for “Touch Your Soul,” directed by Jared Avalos, continues the adventures of Princess Forever as they attempt to overwhelm the corrupt leaders of their planet Terra 2000. The song becomes this rallying cry in defense of the power of love, one that soundtracks the video as it follows Princess Forever and their team in a training montage complete with fierce choreography and retro-style visuals.

It’s perhaps no surprise that Dreamer Isioma counts iconic artists George Clinton, Funkadelic, and Earth, Wind & Fire as major influences on this next chapter of their journey. Their music coalesces around this collision of R&B, rock, and pop that defies categorization in any one genre. Like contemporaries in Bartees Strange and Jelani Aryeh who also resist any such categorization, the music of Dreamer Isioma arrives effortlessly blended as these vibrant soundscapes overflowing with kinetic rhythm and ebullient expression.

“Love & Rage” sees Dreamer Isioma wrestling with the intense dichotomies of those all too-powerful emotions and the struggle to find a balance between them. Against the driving lull of budding beats, they oscillate back and forth from a fervid search for their fantasy girl and their anger at men for making assumptions through the false window of social media. “And a girl is a God, not a sedative,” they sing with warped vocals. “All of you men need to protect them, dawg.” But they’re not done with the biting critiques: “Fuck who you are / Fuck social status, I never applaud.” As the lightspeed beats hit peak acceleration the track guns it for the stars as Dreamer Isioma rockets away in the cockpit of this dreamy banger.
