Hitting back once again after just having released the song “HEAVYWEIGHT,” LA alt-rock duo ill peach is following up with the single “BLAH BLAH BLAH” ahead of shows across the US, including their first headline show in their native LA at The Moroccan Lounge on July 13.

Erupting from the get-go, there’s a controlled chaos to ill peach, the duo that includes musicians Jess Corazza and Pat Morrissey, and their approach to alt-rock. The stoner rock guitar riff and distorted amps might lead the track into an abrasive territory, yet it remains a surprise in how it combines elements of pop with the vocals and melody. Though the two styles oppose one another on paper, they come together in a tasteful blend between the loud and the soft.
There’s almost an innocence in Corazza’s voice, serving as an antidote to the abrasive distortion until the hook comes in and the vocals turn demonic, sarcastically repeating “blah” like a tired vampire. Had another lead singer taken over, the track would have sounded like any other rock rager. But with Corazza, “BLAH BLAH BLAH” differentiates itself enough to offer a juxtaposition between the instrumental and the vocals. And that’s without mentioning the repetition of the title phrase, which is sure to get stuck in your head.
Despite the seemingly nonsensical title, the lyrics speak to the frustration of people writing off the Roe v. Wade decision. “We wrote “BLAH BLAH BLAH” around the time Roe v. Wade was overturned, which was a very sensitive and heartbreaking day. It felt like a huge step backwards in women’s rights,” said Corazza on the track’s inception. “The song describes the repetitive cycle of birthing out sons and daughters and then ultimately being consumed by mother earth herself.”
Similar to that sentiment, the visualizer for the song shows Corazza’s face pressed against a Xerox machine, seemingly winded with nowhere to go. Encapsulated inside, the claustrophobic atmosphere and still animation are eerie when paired alongside the song’s focal message, adding to the duo’s edge and lasting impact.
