Los Angeles-based singer/songwriter Kat Wolff has revealed another poignant single with the release of her latest offering “All My Self.” It arrives as the first piece of music she’s released this year, though it comes with the promise of another summer single and forthcoming shows. A 2020 debut album Soul Syrup served as an introduction to her wistfully poetic lyricism and the somber resonance of her piano keys.

Wolff’s music takes cues from both folk and blues, the influences of which are found in both her capacity for penning beautifully melancholic songs and in crafting their sparsely devastating instrumentation. On the surface “All My Self” unfurls as an intimate recollection of heartache. One that is made all the more emotionally withering by her is the mournful sounds she elicits from the keys her fingers run over.
When the song begins, Wolff’s smoldering vocals pour mix sweetly with the piano’s honeyed tones as they pool softly in the background. But as the song continues and her words become more impassioned, the piano steps more into the foreground, thundering dulcetly alongside the resounding timbre of her voice.
Wolff cranks up the intimacy with a live version of “All My Self” that she recorded for a Tiny Desk Contest. You will also want to check out her previous single “Favor,” a twinkling and dolefully dreamy love song that’s made all the more spellbinding by the lush imagery of her songwriting. Her eight-track debut record Soul Syrup is itself aglow with soul-stirring ballads like its opening song “Payphone” and the joyously resplendent “Delirious.”
