Kid Prexy is back with a new single and music video with the release of “Shooting Star,” the latest offering from the 15-year-old rising artist’s third EP. An intersection of pop-punk and alt-rock influences in the vein of Blink-182 and Jxdn will heavily inspire his third collection when it arrives. The new track follows his previous single “In My Head,” a side-winding and buoyantly propulsive anthem.

With “Shooting Star,” Kid Prexy trades the grumbling riffs of his last single for an exuberant ukelele-led melody. One that splits the difference between the kineticism of pop-punk and dreamily lush acoustics. Against a few sublime chords and scattered percussion, the song strips away all the rowdy sonics leaving behind just the bare-bones intimacy of his soft croons.

“I wrote this song about that feeling of falling in love with someone the first time you see them,” Kid Prexy said of the single. Tucked within his lyricism is a tenderhearted portrait of love at first sight and communicates all the desperation and sincerity of such an infatuation. “I’m starting to care less bout what they say,” he sings in the song, enveloped by the love he feels. “Cause you makin’ happy thoughts bloom.”

“Shooting Star” comes with a fittingly adorable music video drawn and animated by Rob Fidel. One that mixes the song’s lyrics into a love story between two literal stars as they drift within the cosmos. At first solitary and separate from one another, once the chorus starts they embrace and become two unified shooting stars speeding around space by each other’s side. Resulting in a fittingly lighthearted and ebullient vision of the rocketing emotion that love can imbue one with.

Be sure to check out Kid Prexy’s last two EPs for a treasure trove of songs that trace the artist’s ongoing evolution. From the emo-rap hues of his debut Broken Promises to the more lo-fi Lights in the Forest, each new release offers a new side of the young artist’s musical expression.
