Sparks will be performing at the Hollywood Bowl on Sunday, July 16th with They Might Be Giants. The international brotherly pop duo is currently celebrating the release of their latest album The Girl Is Crying In Her Latte with a world tour, which will include this special hometown show. The project of siblings Ron and Russell Mael, for over five decades they’ve managed to enthrall generations of fans with their eclectic mixes of everything from art rock, glam, big band swing, electro-disco, new wave, and synthpop. Their journey began in the 1960s with the release of their seminal debut album Kimono My House and have gone on to work with a stunning array of fellow musicians and artists like Todd Rundgren, Les Rita Mitsouko, Tony Visconti, Franz Ferdinand, and Giorgio Moroder. Their most recent album’s title track has even featured a spellbinding appearance by actor Cate Blanchett — even going so far as to show up at some of the band’s recent shows to perform onstage with them.
Along with what will no doubt be an iconic performance by Sparks, the night will also feature an opening set by another phenomenal duo in They Might Be Giants. Carving out a cult following with a sound that revolved around their surreal and sardonic lyricism, as well as their pursuit of DIY art rock.
In 2021 the band continued they pushed their avant-garde spirit into a new decade with the release of BOOK. A project that offered not just a world of music to immerse yourself in but also a 144-page book containing all the lyrics from the record as shape poems alongside a series of photographs.
