Though she only just began making music at 13, singer-songwriter Edie Yvonne has proven she’s just as consistent in producing quality music as she is in releasing it with reliable frequency, having dropped a new single every other month.
On top of being a musician, the 14-year-old also keeps busy acting and dancing, showing she’s never short of a creative outlet. But Yvonne’s newest single, “On Your Mind,” is proof she’s a singer first and foremost, reaffirming her growing proficiency in the kind of self-assuredness it takes other years and years to figure out.
The single happens to be her shortest track to date, showing Yvonne can still do a lot with so little. Taking off to the country twang of the song’s acoustic guitar, she wastes no time pondering what could possibly be bothering an unnamed someone. Though more simplified than previous singles such as “Stain,” “On Your Mind” serves to give its singer room to show a knack for knowing what to deliver on any given track.

At the song’s core is the stream-of-consciousness melody, adding to the already desperate and almost defeated vocals with Yvonne, at times, interrupting herself and circling the one thing that’s on her mind, “What is on your mind?” It’s a clever way to play off the often repetitiveness of pop verses, reworking what might otherwise be a cliche in another song and making it a part of Yvonne’s message.
