For multi-hyphenate TwoLips, she does a little of everything, from painting to writing and providing vocals to much of her music. But she doesn’t seem to mind keeping busy, as she proves on her newest single featuring Tolliver, “I Like Attention.”

Hailing from New Mexico, she recently played at Echo Park Rising and is readying for a residency in October at The Goldfish in Highland Park, including an appearance from “I Like Attention” collaborator Tolliver.

In just over two minutes, the short single can somehow contain TwoLips and Tolliver’s bigger-than-life personas that affirm their staying power.

Drawing more from hip-hop than anywhere else, both TwoLips and Tolliver get an equal time to talk themselves up with no problem, earning bragging rights in the process. In the first half, TwoLips raps at rapid-fire speed as if running out of time, getting more than one one-liner into her two verses before Tolliver matches her energy.

Unlike the space between TwoLips’ verses, there’s no moment to breathe when Tolliver takes over, who makes the track his own. Compared to TwoLips, Tolliver slows things down but doesn’t stop delivering witty one-liners that would fit on any of his own songs. Neither he nor TwoLips overstay their time, giving enough confident raps to leave you asking for more.

It’s fitting that the simple “I Like Attention” gets an equally simple video from which the cover art comes. Sundrenched with a saturated color palette and dressed in vibrant outfits, the two stumble and laugh through an alleyway, clearly enjoying themselves while bringing levity to a song fraught with good vibes.

The single comes in a long line of material that’s kept TwoLips’ 2023 busy, seemingly making up for lost time between her debut in 2018 and her first EP, Psychowave. Outside of “I Like Attention,” she’s dropped four other singles, a collaborative EP with Def Sound, and now her Tolliver collaboration. With her residency at The Goldfish still on the horizon, there’s no way of knowing what she’s got planned next.
