One thing that hasn’t changed about R&B singer-songwriter Tash Palmer, who now simply goes by Tash, is her habit of covering artists who inspire her. Whether on Instagram or TikTok, she continues to cover everyone from Amy Winehouse to Tyla, which began when she started writing and recording her songs at 13. Her DIY approach to getting her name out from her home in Sydney led to her discovery, marking more exposure to her pop music that speaks to the soul.

Early on, Tash’s ability to craft melodic lullabies radiated from “The Signs” off volume one of her self-titled EP series. At first, sounding similar to sensual and slow-paced cuts like the 2020 single “Cinnamon,” “The Signs” uses its false sense of security to speak on the feeling of bad luck finally catching up.

The song’s lullaby production and Tash’s alternating between soulful vocal demonstrations and tasteful rap verses suit anyone looking for a convergence between tenderly fervent R&B and resonant pop earworms defined by a ubiquitous sense of longing. But her songwriting lingers underneath for those looking for something more, which shows the many layers she’s accumulated at a relatively young age.

Compared to the past seven years of Tash’s career, 2024 will be the most prolific to date. “I Know” and “for you pages” are two of twelve planned singles to be released monthly, with other planned releases in the works. Between the two singles, “I Know” diverges the most from her usual forte and bounces to life with the help of a funk-inspired dance beat.

Despite being known for smooth pop jams reminiscent of the specific hip-hop and R&B style prevalent in the 90s, “I Know” is proof of her willingness to keep widening her scope, not wanting to be an artist confined to one style. “for you pages” follows suit and finds Tash at her most composed, rapping and singing on relaxed guitar-led production.

Although no stranger to performing live in Australia, Tash has yet to perform in the States. Currently, she’s based in LA and Sydney, with her time in the US spent recording music. But later this year, she plans on moving and scheduling a slew of tour dates, including multiple yet-to-be-announced LA dates. Until then, her planned singles for every month of the year will continue to push the envelope of pop music and keep Tash on a fast track to further success.
