After touring across Europe to share Moon Safari with fans the French duo is now headed to North America. They will visit venues in major cities in Canada and the U.S. including Vancouver, San Francisco, Chicago, New York, and Dallas. Fans in California will be spoiled for choice with AIR performing two nights in Los Angeles at the Orpheum Theatre — the only two-night showing of the entire tour.

AIR will play Moon Safari in its entirety for fans across all dates of their upcoming tour. Joining the announcement is a release of the demo version of “New Star In The Sky,” which serves as a preview of the special rarities contained within the 25th-anniversary deluxe edition of the album that drops on March 15th.

Why Moon Safari Was So Groundbreaking

When Moon Safari arrived on January 16th, 1998 it took everyone by surprise, not least of all Nicolas Godin and Jean-Benoit Dunckel, the two men behind AIR. The duo had formed the band only three years prior out of the vestiges of the rock band Orange but their sprawling, bold, and acutely experimental take on electronic music would signify a seachange for both the new group and the entire landscape of the genre for decades to come.

“The hype was a violent experience,” Dunckel confessed. “AIR’s music is not accessible or easy to discern: The format is strange, the voices are strange, the subjects are strange. Even ‘Sexy Boy’ sounds strange. We were a duo doing some electronic thing, dreaming of selling 10,000 copies and being recognized by other musicians as cool. Then suddenly, we met the world. Personally, it took me time to see that we could be a big, important band.”

Their influence on the album was a mercurial and mystifying mix of dreamy pop and cinematic breadth. This was owed in no small part to the creative mood of Paris between 1996 and 1997 — with both Godin and Dunckel soaking up the flourishing movements in graphic design, cinema, and fashion. Rejuvenated by such ardency they saw it as a flashpoint of art that would allow them to create the kind of music they wanted to make.

“Suddenly, all the things I liked and was good at — slow, downtempo soundtrack music — could bring success. We were not formulating success itself. But until 1994, I was listening to the radio and thinking, ‘There’s no way I will make it; whatever this sound of today is, it is not me.’ But then, I heard Portishead’s Dummy on the radio — and thought to myself. ‘…I can make that.”

The long-lasting effects of Moon Safari are evident and measurable in a variety of ways: from the icons who found themselves mesmerized by its sounds — David Bowie, Madonna, Beck — to the new generation of artists it inspired like Charlotte Gainsbourg, Kevin Parker, and Sofia Coppola. Its songs and trio of hit singles — “Kelly Watch The Stars,” “All I Need” and “Sexy Boy” — propelled AIR to the pinnacle of a creative legacy they’ve continued to forge ever since.

The VIP Package presale starts Thursday, March 7th at 10am local time. You won’t need to worry about a presale code for this presale. Just find your preferred AIR tour date and then select your VIP tickets. Packages will vary but include premium tickets, an official tour poster, vouchers for the concession stands, and more.

The Live Nation presale opens on Thursday, March 7th at 10am local time. To participate in the promoter presale, pick a tour date for AIR and then use the following presale code when prompted: KEY.

Pro Tips When Buying Your Tickets

First, on the day of the presale or general onsale (whichever you prefer), login to your Ticketmaster account (go to my account or sign in located on the upper right corner of the page) at least 15 minutes ahead of the sale time. If you don’t have one, create one now.

Be sure to add your billing info (aka credit card info) before jumping into the digital queue for a quick check-out. Once the presale starts, remain in the digital queue. Only use one browser window because using multiple browsers or devices and multiple accounts with the same phone number can result in errors. Trust, it’s happened to us before! Don’t refresh your page, do be patient, don’t leave your page, do get those tickets!

What To Do If Tickets Are Sold Out?

If tickets sell out, your other option is to buy them via online resellers like VividSeats or StubHub. When all else fails, we prefer these resell options because both offer a 100% Guarantee. You can also purchase resell tickets through Ticketmaster’s resell program. Just search for the concert or event you want to attend, and see if they have any resell tickets available. We recommend you compare the three options and find out which works best for you.

Alternatively, you can hit it old school style and show up at the concert when the box office opens and wish upon a star that they release more tickets, or hopefully, another concert-goer has an extra ticket to sell at face-value or even giveaway for free.
