Barreling steadily toward the release of their debut album Leverage the Tides, the post-punk outfit Trace Remains has shared a rip-roaring single “Sold My Soul” from the nine-track collection that’s out November 8th through dy/dx. They’ve been tearing it up across Pittsburgh’s DIY scene since 2017 and this month they’ll showcase their chops with a series of concerts across Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Comprised of Joey Vesely (vocals/guitar), Joel Grimes (guitar), John Perry (guitar), Jon Rigatti (bassist), and Jesse Tranfo (drummer), the band’s newly formed lineup unleashes powerhouse sonics and melodic earworms with fiery abandon. Lead single “Sold My Soul,” the first tumult in an avalanche of new music, sets the tone for their forthcoming record with blistering waves of electrifying rock.

As the song begins, you’re pulled into a riptide of dueling riffs and fearsome percussion. From out of the thunderous cacophony comes Vesely’s wails—”thin lines over the mist / sold myself my devil”—his words charged with foreboding momentum. The song’s visceral lyricism puts into searing clarity the daunting burden and necessity of choice in our lives.

Yet like the rest of the music being prepped for Leverage the Tides, there are glimmers of rallying hope within the bleakest chaos. For all its abrasive noise and broken imagery, “Sold My Soul” kindles a steadfast defiance in its wake. As Vesely howls on its outro: “Bruised not broken / hear this now / heal it all with sound.”

The new track also comes with a music video directed by Anthony Peduzzi pairs its virulent energy with a gallery of eerie, unnerving, but impossibly entrancing scenes. Its orange and blood-red hues cast a foreboding aura over the film as Trace Remains tear through the song.

“‘Sold My Soul’ is about trade offs and decision-making in life,” the band said of the single. “Sometimes we reap what we sow and we get it wrong. but our mistakes don’t have to define us. Music heals. Sound heals.”

Leverage the Tides arrives on November 8th via dy/dx. Trace Remains will also be playing a handful of shows this month in Pennsylvania and Ohio with more dates in the works for 2025!
