Although she’s currently in the thick of touring, including an opening slot for Sabrina Carpenter, English singer-songwriter Rachel Chinouriri can’t help but think about one thing with her latest single, “Can we talk about Isaac?” To the sound of a wailing guitar that gradually comes into play, “Can we talk about Isaac?” slaps into gear with the help of jumpy drums and a bassline to keep the euphoric puppy love going throughout. While indie rock is just about everywhere, what’s rarer nowadays is the kind that’s unabashedly joyous in its emotionality.

In the case of this single, Chinouriri wrestles with her own head-over-heels state, trying to tell herself that she hates Isaac when it’s obvious she’s feeling anything but. Had she finished the track around the two-minute mark, it would’ve made for a satisfying listen for any hopeless romantic. But the second half explodes like the supernova Chinouriri compares Isaac to, with the once-wailing guitar now screeching as though it were an extension of her vocals. In short, yes, we can talk about Isaac.
