Puerto Rican musicians Raquel Berrios and Luis Del Valle, better known as Buscabulla, are proving they’re here to stay on their newest single, “Te Fuiste.” With Se Amaba Así – the duo’s upcoming album out June 13 via Domino – shaping up to be their most reflective and open to date, “Te Fuiste” stands out as a bouncy meditation of a song with production that twists and turns throughout.

“We needed this to be a high-energy song that you could jump to,” said Berrios. “The message is so cathartic that you almost need to dance to it to process the pain when you are losing the person you love.”

At the start of the track, the use of chopped vocals, romantic strings, and electronic pulses lays down the perfect foundation for Berrios to come into the picture with soft vocals full of longing. Closer to the halfway point, crunchy textures in the production up the ante of the build-up while setting precedent for the climax’s sudden influx of synths and 808s.

From there, “Te Fuiste” takes its love story to new heights in the last leg, settling into a slowly expanding supernova made of intensifying synths and dance rhythms teasing at what’s to come from the rest of Se Amaba Así.

See Buscabulla in LA at The Belasco on July 3.
