Through the noise surrounding the duo, British rap project Bob Vylan is laser-focused with their brand of hard-hitting punk on their new single, “Sick Sad World.”
The two made a splash earlier this year after their Glastonbury performance, where they started a crowd chant shouting “Death to the IDF!” More recently, journalist Louis Theroux lost funding for his podcast after inviting Bobby Vylan (one half of the group next to Bobbie Vylan) in the group’s first interview since Glastonbury.
Despite the wave of controversies, none of that has slowed down their input, as “Sick Sad World” comments on the state of the moment, while the two revel in the punk and garage rock production.
On Instagram, they said, “As many of you are aware, we have been busy recently but we never forgot about the music.”
At the same time, they manage to address all that’s been going on without taking away from their blend of rap and rock. In one line, they comment on the economic status of everyday people (“I can’t afford my weekly shopping ’cause the costs on the rise”) and in another, they touch on their headlines (“I watch the BBC’s liеs, think I’m losing my mind”).

Although the repetition of “It’s a sick, sad world” during the chorus is simple, there’s no other way of describing how things are, which doubles as an example of how Bob Vylan can tell it straight and make it sound revelatory.
