Showing no signs of stopping ever since he released his 2024 EP, Como Te Extraño, Colombian American singer-songwriter Baltazar Lora is keeping the momentum going with a radio-ready single, “Silly Rabbit.”
The Kentucky native knows a thing or two about seamlessly fusing sounds, whether switching between English and Spanish or bringing genres together.
The same is true for “Silly Rabbit,” which Lora wrote “while couch surfing in NYC.” Carrying with him the self-assured indie pop approach that solidified artists like Cage The Elephant, Baltazar Lora spins together a song that must have been engineered in a lab to be as catchy as possible.
From the start, the touches of soft-rock cushion Lora’s melodies like mattresses capable of stopping a 1,250-foot fall. However, as he lets out small outbursts of energy that contrast his softer register, the production shifts to accommodate the changes in pace.
Small yet attentive decisions like that make a world of difference in the long run. While “Silly Rabbit” follows pop music conventions, it still lets Lora keep the songwriting center stage.
And once the strumming of his guitar slows down in the last leg, so does his singing, exemplifying how easily he can keep listeners on their toes. As “Silly Rabbit” ends on an intimate note, you’re left thinking it’s a matter of when, not if, Lora takes off.
