There’s something quietly magnetic about this set of three new songs—each one unfolding like a different corner of the same vivid world. The variety of sounds delivers everything from intimate acoustic moments to fractured breakbeats and subtle psychedelic haze. Coincidentally, the three featured artists/bands happen to have full-length projects right around the corner, with their respective teases setting the bar high for what’s to come. Press play on these three must-hear new songs.

Dua Saleh “Cállate”
As part of a bigger story being told on the upcoming album, Of Earth & Wires, out May 15, Sudanese-American artist Dua Saleh is flexing their songwriting muscles on “Cállate.” The meditative track finds the singer-songwriter tracking the journey of two lovers that the album at large follows, where the mellow guitar-playing represents a slow build towards a relationship’s tipping point, and the upfront lyrics remind of how “Cállate” is all about knowing when to be quiet.
More impressive is how Dua Saleh balances so many soundscapes, from acoustic to breakbeat, under a combination of frustration and calm composure, a hard mix that seems to come naturally for them.

Aldous Harding & H. Hawkline “Venus in the Zinnia”
The second single for Aldous Harding’s upcoming album, Train On The Island, out May 8, finds the singer-songwriter teaming up with fellow contemplative singer H. Hawkline for the smooth drift of a song, “Venus in the Zinnia.” Whether it’s Hawkline’s steady guitar, John Parish making magic on the Wurlitzer, or Harding’s own softly-sung vocals, “Venus in the Zinnia” is a sweet springtime embrace if there ever was one.
And, unsurprisingly, Harding and Hawkline are a natural duo, singing together in a way that complements both of their avant-garde styles and brings out the best of their inner songwriters.

Devlin and the Harm “Kingdom Comes”
Coming off their upcoming self-titled debut album, out May 22, Devlin and the Harm are showing how “Kingdom Comes” through desert-style instrumentation and hypnotic arrangements. The new offering follows Devlin and the Harm’s insatiably catchy debut single, “No Havana.” In more ways than one, “Kingdom Comes” is a “turning point” for principal songwriter Devlin McCluskey (formerly of The Dead Ships), the shift exemplified by an almost psychedelic approach befitting of a lost western movie.
Considering this is the second effort from McCluskey’s newly made band, the fact that their atmosphere and overall feel are not only self-assured but fully-formed is a testament to what’s to come for the rest of the debut.
