Some nights in Los Angeles remind you why the city’s music scene is so special, and Love Spells’ secret show at Eastside Alice was one of them. And the week was full of them! From Syd’s album release party in Glassell Park to Steve Lacy’s at Sister Dreamer Sculpture Park, and of course this whimsy concert featuring Julia Jacklin and Love Spells, there were so many in-person music experiences to be enjoyed. And for that, we are grateful. L.A. love always.
It was the first time in a while that it truly felt like the perfect summer night in L.A. Tucked away in the backyard of a house in Cypress Park, Eastside Alice is a cozy barn with string lights overhead, thrifted chairs scattered around, and a warm DIY atmosphere. It felt like you were hanging out in a friend’s backyard. As the sun began to set, the entire space glowed, making it the perfect place to experience a voice and vibe like Love Spells.
His dreamy sound paired beautifully with the intimate setting. It never felt like a typical concert. It felt personal, relaxed, and like everyone there was sharing the same moment. The setting and the music came together in a way that felt effortless.
The show also gave fans a glimpse of what’s to come before the release of his debut album, LOVE IS THE LAW, arriving on July 24. If this performance was any indication, Love Spells is heading into an exciting new chapter. With his new album and a headline tour underway, this will probably be the last time we’ll see Love Spells in such an intimate setting.
Once the sun had fully set, the crickets filled the air and completed the perfect summer night. Julia Jacklin took the stage with an acoustic guitar, and her intimate set perfectly matched the cozy atmosphere of the barn. It was a beautiful way to end the night.
