Paper Idol have shared buoyant new single “Money For Flowers,” a rollicking, manic song that finds romance pitted against poverty and love-sickness. Between a puncturing melody made up of spiraling riffs and staccato percussion world, Matan KG steers Paper Idol towards his ever off-kilter and energetic brand of indie-rock. “Money For Flowers” oozes with all the slick hooks and deeply burrowed angst of the best pop-rock pieces, pulsating with a rambunctious but raw style of storytelling in the vein of Bleachers.
“I wrote ‘Money For Flowers’ at a particularly broke time in my life. I had just visited a girlfriend’s parents and promised that I would send them flowers as a thank-you; I remember thinking, ‘I don’t even have money for flowers.’ As a whole, the song is basically about impulsivity and fickleness in relationships. I did end up buying the flowers, by the way.”
