If anything was a cultural reset in the past three years, it was Rico Nasty’s “Smack a Bitch.” The iconic single and its remix appear on Rico’s debut album Nightmare Vacation, which was released only last year. The punk-rap star from the DMV has wasted no time with new material—her forthcoming mixtape Rx will include new single “Magic,” which has dropped alongside a new trippy video that plays into its namesake.
Clocking in under two minutes, “Magic” plays into the softer side of her vocal range which flitters with trap beat underneath. Camera sweeps and quick edits in the video add movie magic to perfectly complement the track. This happy, sassy track arrived in June, but its new video release is making the “magic” of summer last all year long.
As if new music and videos weren’t exciting enough, Rico Nasty will also be at Rolling Loud California on Saturday, December 11; get your tickets here. You can also order a fresh coral-colored vinyl pressing of Nightmare Vacation here.

Though Nightmare Vacation is considered Rico’s debut album, she is no stranger to a mixtape. Including solo and collaborative efforts, Rx will be mixtape number seven, and if “Magic” suggests anything about her outlook, it tells us that both everything and nothing has changed. Her sound might shift and her vibe might waver but she will never stop destroying and reinventing genres.
