Britti delivers an intimate and electrifying debut with the release of her stellar new record Hello, I’m Britti. As far as first introductions go, the album coalesces around the singer/songwriter’s reckonings with heartache, doubt, and the vibrant resilience of her dreams. One that trapezes with poised dexterity from genre to genre as Britti and producer Dan Auerbach saw fit — their only goal to pair her with a melody that would spotlight her gleaming vocals.
Its first half reflects on the reeling turmoil that hung like a storm cloud over her life before making the hard decision to fully commit to a dream left on the back burner. Opener “So Tired” mingles her wearied soul with riveting hope, foreshadowing the ecstasy of fulfillment that she still firmly believes is just over the horizon.
Even when she’s consumed by the agonies of shattered love, as heard over twanging guitars on “Still Gone” and behind gauzy psychedelic grooves of carnival imagisms on “Nothing Compares to You,” — Britti grips you with her suave allure. Her earnest willingness to give every emotion the spacious splendor it deserves makes her a sublime conduit for both heartbreak and its restoration.

But nowhere is she more thrilling than when she’s teasing out the edges of her sound. “Take my kindness for weakness,” she coos with soft thunder on “Silly Boy,” rebuffing the juvenile words of an ex-lover. “Ah, but I would win the fight.” While the vivaciously bluesy “There Ain’t Nothing” finds her embracing the rapt truth of love’s sting, the neo-soul “Reach Out” is all about fearlessly outstretching your heart when you finally find it again.
Then there are the moments where Britti branches out entirely, revealing the rousing spirit that burns fiercely within her music regardless of genre or style. There’s the resonant drawl of riffs that saturate the urgently tender words on “Back Where We Belong” and the galloping anthemics that soar alongside the wayfaring “Keep Running.” Even the atmospheric slow-burner “Lullaby,” with its shuddering rhythms and ethereal guitar whines, sweeps you away in with its momentous vision of love.
With graceful grandeur, each of its tracks proves beyond an inkling of doubt that Britti belongs to that rare breed of artists who firmly root themselves in rich genre traditions, yet still manage to flourish and bloom beyond their boundaries. From the blues and soul to country-tinted folk and everything wedged between — all that her iridescent voice touches is luxuriantly revamped and revitalized.
