New York-based collective MICHELLE shares another outpouring of vibrantly-haloed R&B/pop on their new EP GLOW, out now via Atlantic Records/Transgressive Records. After releasing their sophomore record AFTER DINNER WE TALK DREAMS in 2022 and performing show-stealing opening slots while on tour for artists like Arlo Parks and Mitski — now they’re back with a joyously effervescent collection of songs that span the breadth of love’s bittersweet yearnings.

It all starts with EP’s jumpy and shimmering title track “GLOW,” a dreamy but deceptively jubilant elopement of desire doused by a sobering realization. The vivacious melodics take a momentary backseat on “DNR” as MICHELLE begs smitten, buoyed by soulfully ebullient synths and bass, to not be separated from the heavenly presence of their romantic obsession.

“ON THE LINE” echoes the affectionate restlessness of those first two songs into a lush and groovy crescendo of harmonies. “When I know you’re there, through dead air / Softly sharing in the feeling,” their words tenderly tracing a conversation between two star-crossed lovers. “I got a question, can you stay on the line?”

The stripped-down “AGNOSTIC” unfolds as another long-distance communication, though this time it is poignant indie rock resonance silhouettes the group’s affirmation of the maxim that misery loves company: “We can suffer together / On a doomsday / Or a weekend if you’re free.” That resigned nonchalance is gently brushed away on the final track of GLOW — which breezily blows in on the tranquil space-age pop instrumentals that flutter from “NEVER AGAIN.”

Across GLOW the quartet reaffirms its status as splendid pop outliers who pair heartfelt songwriting and irresistible harmonies with an ever-vibrant palette of melodies. Sofia D’Angelo, Layla Ku, Emma Lee, and Jamee Lockard offer up their sensational voices alongside the dynamically gleaming production of Julian Kaufman and Charlie Kilgore to create another MICHELLE collection for you to fall resolutely in love with.
