Empire of the Sun is returning for another visionary and fantasy-gleaming project with the unveiling of their fourth studio album Ask That God, sharing its second euphorically sizzling single “Music On The Radio.” Once more the ethereally regal duo of Luke Steele and Nick Littlemore dives headfirst into a realm of surging synth-pop of their own rapt design. When it finally arrives on July 26th via Capitol Records loyal Empyreans who’ve waited a long eight years for the band’s reemergence will be greeted with a record pulsing with neon anthemics.
“Music On The Radio” reunites fans of Empire Of The Sun with their talents for channeling the vulcanic energy afforded by their blissful electronica. Syncing Emperor Steele’s hyperkinetically shimmering vocals to a throbbing beat that is as deliciously elastic as it is fiercely propulsive. The pair are as mesmeric as ever, dazzling and slipping between beaming hooks and irresistible grooves, leaving you in the beatific afterglow of its riveting transcendence.
“To me this song is like a teenager rebelling against his imaginary emotions,” Steele said of their new single. “It’s penned in only that unique way Lord Littlemore can bring words to life. The bass wraps its arms around you in some kind of hypnotic groove and you’re powerless to its charms.”
The pair enlisted filmmaker Michael Maxxis to direct the music video for the new single, conjuring up a fever dream of a pool party pulled straight from their dually enigmatic and whimsical phantasmagoria. One that follows Steele and Littlemore as they surreally entertain the guests of a mind-bending pool party.
Dressed in extravagantly shimmering fits, populated by strange and whacky characters (mushroom-looking creatures with glowing eyes), and gripping dance numbers — it’s safe to say the interdimensional boys are back and ready to keep delivering cosmic bangers.
“It has been a journey unlike any other that Empire Of The Sun has undertaken. We always ‘go there’ when it comes to exploration of both the self and the outside world,” Littlemore explained. “This body of work represents the greatest shift in consciousness our world has ever seen and that’s reflected in the music.”
Be sure to check the album’s lead single “Changes” as well, a familiarly soul-launching pairing of the band’s acoustic melodies and dreamy synths that encapsulates Empire Of The Sun’s ecstatic journey of growth and renewal.
